You can't register there without that serial number. You must also use this same serial number in order to register to The Sims website where you can interact with their forum and download free community objects. You can't play the game at all if you don't install it with a serial number. There will come a box that asks you for your serial number - this is where you will enter the number and installation will continue. When installing the game, follow the on screen instructions.
